Me

Welcome to Humble, Happy, Healthy! I am a Jesus follower, a housewife, a student at the University of Oregon, an athlete, and a lover of FOOD.

Humility

Being humble is loving people selflessly. Loving selflessly is being patient, kind, not jealous, not boastful, not proud, and not rude. It means not demanding my own way. Love is not irritable and it means keeping no record of being wronged. Love rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance (1 Corinthians 13:4-7).

Happiness

Happiness is tricky. It means something different to everyone. For me, happiness means loving Jesus, being with my husband, riding bikes, being outside, cooking, drinking coffee, being silly, and serving & loving people.

Health

My health became a concern of mine when I was in high school. Since I was young, I was constantly gaining weight. Freshman year of high school, I packed over 220 pounds onto my 5’1” frame. I always knew I would lose weight, but I didn’t know how. My journey began by compulsive eating habits and running. Within a year and a half, I lost half of my body weight.

Despite compromising my health, I continued losing weight through disordered eating until college. In college I started gaining weight because of the same disordered eating. Instead of the “freshman 15,” I gained the “freshman 30.” I just didn’t know how to let myself eat without going through the cycle of binge, feel terrible, repeat. In my third year of college, I decided to see a counselor for help with my eating habits. She really helped me establish healthy eating habits and I have continued to develop and adapt these habits. I currently weigh more than I did in high school, but I feel comfortable and confident! If you want to read more about my weight loss, click here.

Right now, I strive to eat in a way that makes me feel good. I try to use the principles of intuitive eating and eat according to what my body wants. Through trial and error, I have found that I function best on a gluten-free, nearly dairy-free, low-sugar diet. I try to avoid sugar that doesn’t occur naturally, but occasionally I indulge my sweet-tooth.

As far as exercise goes, I am primarily a runner. Throughout my life, I have tried multiple times to stop running. I just can’t give it up. I have ran three half-marathons, but lately I’ve been running shorter distances. I am also a cyclist and I love to swim. You could call me a triathlete, except I have never competed in a triathlon!

This is my journey. You’re welcome to join me in finding the best possible combination of being humble, happy, and healthy. I can assure you that you will have a different combination than I do, which is awesome. I just hope to inspire someone to follow her/his heart to choose the best life.
